Well add this to the many things that has gone wrong with my truck.Lost reverse and third gear at 63,000 miles the new version of the e4od (4r100)still has problems.I had the tranny rebuilt with new shift kit installed, they recommend driling extra holes in the oil passages.I must have a lemon,I have all the common problems, sqeaky springs ,rattling hubs, piston slap, faulty door switch, speedsensor failure,3 recalls and now tranny failure. What next? I love the truck but give me a break.Maybe I shouldn't use the word "Break" because it WILL!!!!!
I'm curious when you say you lost reverse and third gear what exactly was it doing? I have had problems with my tranny not going into reverse but it doesn't happen consistantly. Or is it a matter of time until it fails completely? I'm bringing mine into the dealer tomorrow to have it looked at again. (See my post on safety concern)
The last time they checked it they told me it was fine and there was no fault codes registered. I'm am not overly impressed with the possibility of having the tranny rebuilt with only 31k on it.
Steve,What happened was that it first started to take a little longer to engage aprox 4seconds then it would take about 30 seconds to engage into reverse, that's when it would not shift into 3rd at all. From first symptom to final outcome took about 3 days. They tell me that reverse and 3rd gear share the same clutch pack. After market shift kit mentions both of the problems are common.I hope you resolve your problem with the dealer.
,as I was out of warranty. Good Luck. Rich
