Wipers Hosed Up!!

Have an 87 F-150. Wipers went awry during a highway trip in the intermittent rain. I have High speed, but no low and no intermittent. Changed wiper switch in dash. No Change. If I am correct, this is a 12 Volt Motor. The switch is basically one with 2 sets of contacts. One for a straight 12 volts for high speed, and the other routed through a resistance pathway to reduce voltage to the motor and thus the speed of the wipers. Is there another part involved here such as a relay that may be bad? I can't fathom what the culprit could be otherwise. Someone surely has the answer for me.. Please Help

Problem Solved

As it turns out, my prob did in fact lie in the little black box under the dash! However, upon inspection, I found no broken soldered wires, or anything that looked out of ordinary. There was a little white colored cover over a little itty bitty winding, and a duel set of contacts. I simply cleaned the contacts with some 400 sandpaper, pluged the wiper switch back on a WALAA!! Maybe this will help someone else!

Thanks for writing in the fix. Once in awhile it's something simple, and if I am sure the part is bad, I always try cutting it apart to see if it's fixable.

Keep an eye on it though. If it happens more frequently, the plating on the contacts may have burnt off, and they will corrode quicker.
