16.5" Rims?

Ok, just wondering something here...

Are the 16.5" rims on there way out? I was planning on picking up a set of 17x10 wheels for some 37's I picked up used. But now a friend of mine might sell me a set of 37" SSR's on 16.5x9 Alcoas for pretty cheap, (he paid $500 at a swap meet and they look almost new still).

Is it worth buying the 16.5's? Or am I going to need to buy 17's a year or two down the road? It seems that most tire makers are going to 17's now. I just don't want to spend the money on the rims if the tire selection will be deminishing!

(I don't air down enough, or often enough to really worry about the beads)

I run 16.5's on mine. There seem to be more and more tires for sizes other than 16.5 but I think with the tens of thousands of older 3/4 and 1 ton trucks running around with that wheel size the core group of off road tires will continue to be made.

Why would the tire makers just throw away that business if the rigs are still there looking for that size? The newer trendy tires do seem to be going away from 16.5 but I like Swampers and I would be suprised if they turned their back on all their existing customers. The folks who really use their tires.

Like RRMike said, and since you don't air down, nothing to worry about...

When I restored my 79 F250 about 8 years ago, I went to 16" wheels because I could not find any load range E tires in 16.5".
