Hate to say this, but go to a good INDEPENDENT shop and have them code read and fix whatever is wrong.
Autozone's readers aren't too exact and that's not counting the lousy job their people do of pulling codes.
My mom needed said work done on her 98 C1500....they didn't get anything out of her truck nor did they care to elaborate--it needed a scanner hooked up while driving as it is, I think.
Point being....you paid for the truck with the newer gizmos, treat it right and let folks with the complicated computers narrow things down.
I've got a 94 and I'll get by on a scanner for $30 bigguns. Whether it's a conspiracy that OBD-2 needs expensive readers or shop visits is beyond me, but make friends with a good shop either way.
P.S. Don't pull the cable to reset the ECU. It screws the program to where the truck has to relearn its settings all over again, forget the radio presets in this case.
