Hey, no biggy. It took me awhile to figure out what a "Cat-back" was. Everyone was talking about them. They are for people that can't hang with old trucks. It stands for an exhaust system from the catalytic converter back to where ever the exhaust ends; our old trucks didn't have catalytic converters. I believe '76 was the transitional year.
Any good muffler shop should be able to make you dual exhaust from the manifolds back. Lots of 4x4 guys here have duals on thier pickups - any competant muffler shop can easily do it. My local muffler shop ran dual 2 1/2" pipes w/ glasspacks on my 2wd for $200. Check around.
Also, thanks for the information on the meaning of "Cat-Back". I did not know that it ment from the catalytic converter back. Sounds like I will need a system with single muffler and two exits.
No, You can go to a muffler shop and they can make a true Dual Exhaust sytem for your truck. They just run both pipes and mufflers down the passenger side and then come back across after the axle. A true dual is the only way to go.
Chris, it sounds like you are not sure you can run true dual exhaust on your truck. I'll offer one suggestion that might be helpful: The exhaust does not have to be symetric. You can run pipes wherever they will fit nicely without interfering with suspension, other moving components or come too close to gas tank, lines or the filler neck. It would probably be best to have the same number of bends on each side and keep the mufflers about the same distance from the manifolds but that is only if you want to be really **** about it. Just because the pipes on either side will be running in about the same location for some length, does not mean they HAVE to go into one pipe.
