Well this is my 1st time on your site and i havw a Huge problem w/ my 2000 F250 Crew Cab Diesel 4wd. Since 1037 miles when upon braking the right fri=ont brake locked up, then the truck started to pull/turn to the right, I've had a problem that even the Forad engineers can't fix. This truck has rear ABS only,(even though it was ordered w/4wheel ABS, but that's a different problem) seems there was a build change in Jan where 4wheel ABS was optional and mine was orderd in Oct where it was listed as Std. equipment. Anyway upon hard or moderate braking the rears lock up. It could be one wheel, two wheels or it can alternate between the two. Also when pulling my trailer (pull type 6900 Lb) and applying the brakes even slightly the truck pulls either to the right or the left. I never know which way it's going to pull and it gets much worse the harder the brake is applied. i've taken the Ford engineer and service Mgr for rides and shown them and let them drive it. Let me describe the last ride. engineer Scott driving, going about 35 mph gets on the brakes hard, (w/o the trailer on) the rear brakes lock and alternate right and left locking but just as the truck is about to come to a stop say 30 ft, the steering wheel spins to the right. We did it again and it spins to the left. The attempted fixes so far are: For the first 4 times into the stop they turned the rotors. Then they rebuilt the calipers and I made sure they greased the caliper pins. Per the engineer Scott after getting with the factory, he said it was out of his league, they replaced the entire front axle housing and all, plus the front leaf springs. They said they have experienced front axle housing flex on some F250 under hard braking. They also went thru the rear ABS system checking sensors etc. and everything checks out ok. But the problem (s) remain. they say they can't fix it and have basically given up. In my last meeting with the Service Mgr. he gave me a form called The Settlement Dispute Board form to fill out and send in, which I did. Haven't heard anything on it yet. I've caled the number in the owners manual and spoke to them twice about the problem and they are nice enough but I still have a problem. The truck has 16000 miles on it now and i can't afford to rent a truck until this gets sorted out. Now to my question. What should I do? I like the truck except for the problems. Oh yeah, now the transmisson is slipping when its cold. I apppreciate any help. Thanks, Steve
Hopefully Ford arbitration will come up with a settlement thats fair to you. If they don't offer something thats agreeable to you, then I would bet you qualify for the Lemon law which varies from state to state.
It sounds like your maintaining a professional relationship with your dealer as well as FoMoCo. I believe that if you continue to demonstrate that you are willing to give Ford a chance to win your business, that they will come through for you..
A friend of mine went through this process. He turned down the offer that Ford Arbitration came up with as Ford didn't offer enough $$ because of mileage, so my friend continued on with the Lemon law processing thru the state attorney general. He ended up with a brand new truck and is competely satisfied with it.

I made Ford and the dealership after numerous attempts buy my 98 f250 back. I am sorry to say but I also had to replace 3 rearends, bad pinion gears, installed an F250 brake booster in my 98 F150 4x4 counldn't stop a 1500 pound trailer..an new engine, rearend, 3 sets of brakes in 34k miles ...hmmm I am rather disappointed with Fords new truck line.I hope they know this, alot of die hard fans are walking away..:-(
Good luck
Paul
Steve, Sounds like you have a good dealer that listens to you and the problems. I would PARK IT at the dealer till it is fixed!! I know it sounds like they are bending over backwards for you BUT...You have the libality if something happens down the road later. You may be the one bending over Backwards
As the ptior poster mentioned ..Use the lemon laws in your state ..they are there to help you!!
I would give up the truck in a heart beat with a problem like that... Don`t let it Punish you financially to drive of with a new truck!! Will they give you a loaner at No or Reduced cost??

LAST EDITED ON 01-Jan-01 AT 11:30 PM (EST)[p]We had a similar problem with a 91 Chevy suburban. After 3 shops looked at it, each one was over $300 without fixing it. The problem was finally determined to be a brake hose on the right front wheel. I don't know if this applies to your truck but the symptoms are identical except for ours always pulled to the right. But 3 shops and the dealer overlooked it! It might just be something simple.
P.S. I have 4wheel abs and on wet pavement it is possible to lock up all four tires, you just have to slam the pedal as hard as you can, the abs system grabs for about 2 seconds and then gives up and locks up. I don't know if something is wrong with my truck or if abs just isn't all its cracked up to be.
