I was hit by a retired deputy sheriff in the drivers side rear wheel. I have a 00 cc 4wd sd 5.4. The rear rim was bent and the tire held air but the sidewall was damaged. The center ring hub cap was also broken. I think I should have a four wheel alignment and the axle checked out for damage. There was no body damage as the nose of the 96 Lumina hit directly on the hub of my rear wheel. I have put the spare tire on and the truck drives fine with no vibration. I would like to know if there is anything else I should have checked out? The dealer looked over the truck on the hoist and said everything was ok with the axle mounts and leaf springs. Barney Fife who hit me was stopped at a stop sign and than drove right in to my wheel well. He said he did'nt see me, I told him I was the big truck with the lights on the roof. The plastic hubcaps on my Ford are tougher than the front bumper of that Lumina! Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
The alignment check can't hurt. If it drives OK at all speeds, ahem all legal speeds (Barney's son might be on the force) it's probably OK. I'd keep a sharp lookout for any leaks at the axle ends after driving it awhile.
Be thankful Barney wasn't in a police cruiser. I had one hit my PARKED car and returned to find no less than 30 officers create a human wall around the cruiser until it was loaded onto the tow truck. They wanted me to claim it on MY insurance as a hit and run. Fortunately, parts of his car were under mine. After several months and disavowing membership in any subversive organizations I got my couple of hundred dollars.(g)
