Gooseneck hitch placement
Hey, I am getting to build another gooseneck hitch, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how far forward of the rear axle centerline to place the ball. I have had them put about 1"-2" forward, but was just wondering what others think. If any of you that have the bolt on ones don't mind, would you measure yours to see what the manufacturers do. When I had my ball installed, the welder told me that 2 to 6 inches in front of the centerline is recommended. It also seems like you can go to the turnover ball website by B&W or the popuphitch website and they tell in the installation instructions how far to place ahead of the axle. If you have a long box I'd suggest going at least 4 inches because any extra weight you can throw forward will help your steering.
