I have a beautiful 1994 Ford Ranger with the big six. I am having a problem with my signal light. Allo of my other lights work fine, parking, flasher, brake. I checked the bulbs and the fuse and found no problem. Please help! Thanks in advance.

Hey Krock! Welcome to FTE. Another possibility is the multifunction switch that controls the hazards and turn signals. Not sure how to go about checking it other than going to a mechanic. Mine has acted up off and on for the past few years. At 200+ to have said mechanic replace it, I've been hesitant to do so. Its not a safety issue yet. But in your case, you have to have turn signals. Unless you're here in Atlanta where no one bothers to use the ones they have.
I just replaced my multifunction switch - started having problems getting my windshield washer button to work, had to push it just right to get it to work. Driving one day and couldnt get the right turn signal to work, came back on later. Anyway, jiggled the switch and it all worked - bought a multifunction switch (I have 95 ranger super), easy to install (15 minutes) and cost me around $30-40.
Sounds good jmq. Does yours have airbags? MY mechanic, the idiot in my username, said they'd have to take the steering column apart on my 98. If so, would I have to disarm the airbag first?
MMAI - My ranger has both steering wheel and passenger airbag - I disconnected the negative battery terminal before I started (I dont honestly know what that does for airbags). Anyway, read up on how to take all of that crap apart and was thinking the worst. Took off the lower plastic cover below steering column, two screws were attched to hood latch. After I took that off, book said to take off metal plate, etc. - didnt do that, instead took off bottom screws (lower shroud), then sort of manipulated the top cover around until I could get a nut driver in on the two screws holding the switch (visible from left side), after that really easy, unplug, plug then put screws back in, screw shroud halves together, reinstall plastic cover below column. If I followed the book would have taken me hours, actually left work early, wound up taking me 15 minutes, so rode my motorcycle. remember I have a 95, dont know how different it would be for a 98.
I bought mine over the internet, dont know how this site feels about web addresses and endorsements but I can tell you who I buy from if you email me. Also, please remember that I dont know if your light problem is due to a switch or not, just that it fixed my problem - have read somewhere that it is a general ford problem.
Thanks alot for the info jmq. I just might give that a shot here in a week or so.
Krock: Like jmq said, replacing the switch may or may not work. Keep an eye on this thread for a day or so and see if any of the senior guys have any other ideas. If not, and if you want to risk flushing the 40 or 50 bucks, go ahead and replace it.
You guys are great. Excellent info and alternatives. i just bought this truck and I hope that this is not the beginning of many small issues. I will spend the money and see what happens. I will continue to monitor the thread and let you know what happens. a million! I actually have another question to post concerning the drivetrain! My ranger is a '94 without airbags or tilt. I am pretty handy so it shouldn't br s problem. Will PM you for that website!
