restore hub caps
I would like to have my 86 F-150's factory hub caps restored. What is the best way? I don't mind to spent a little money to have it done write. Is there companies that restore hub caps?

If you have the 20 slot wheel cover with polished center the correct paint color is argent. You can do the job yourself and save a ton of $. The chrome hub part is a laminate and can be buffed back to the original luster with a small wheel and a high grade compound. If the hub is damaged, it can be replaced from a donor cover. The outer trim is stainless. Nice little weekend project to restore a set of four including masking and painting, but at a cost of about $20. Curb rash can not be fixed on these covers. If you have the base dog dish hub caps, they are available as reproductions for far less than OEM. I keep several sets of the 20 slot covers on hand to refurbish as needed. Dog dish caps are not worth the work.

use 100 grit water paper then use 1500grit then buff with 2000 grit compound use the 1000 paper to get the metal colour back then use the 1500 to get the 1000 grit scratches out yhen buff vigorrusly then paint what needs to be painted sounds hard but it is very easy ,cant mess up.good luck
