Hi all, I just bought a 2000 Super Duty Lariat, supercab, long bed, leather, cd changer, butt scratcher, The whole ball of wax. Only 83000 miles on it. I got a great deal on it and so far i love it but I did read something about a TSB from ford about trans cooling on some 99 and 2000 models. I was wondering how I could find out if my truck was affected by this and if so how could I tell if it has been fixed? I have a small 17 ft camper that weighs a little over 2500 lbs so maybe i shouldnt even worry about it. What do you guys think? Thanx, Dew
look at www.alldata.com they have alot of info on tsb's and recalls. as far as your specific truck you may be abel to check with a dealer on what warrenty or recall work has been done on your truck(hopefully someone will have more info on that then me)
oh- yea, welcome, you will find this place is great...
I pulled my trailer back to the RV dealer tonight for some warranty work. I had the OD turned off untill I got on the highway and got her up to 70 mph. She was crankin pretty hard (around 3000 rpm) so I turned the OD back on and it pulled great. I could hardly tell it was even back there. I backed her down to about 65 and my trip computer said I was getting 13 mpg. Pretty good considering my 97 f150 4x4 with 4.6L only got 14 mpg by itself.

Don't worry about taking it out of OD unless the tranny is seeking. You'll be amazed how much it really takes to force a downshift. When I drive with my 5-speed I rarely take it out of 5th gear when towing and usually don't lose any speed on hills.
Last year when I was pulling with the F150 OD was a major no no. It wanted to shift all the time. I guess I wont have that problem now. But I'm still concerned about hurting the tranny. My mother just spent 2700 bucks on the tranny in her 97 Cummins powered Dodge (with only 53000 miles on it) and i just cant afford a repair bill like that.
service the transmission very regularly. Also, lucas makes an additive that is better than anything else on the market. It is called Lucas Transmission Fix--it works great and for only about $7/bottle it is very cheap insurance
