Power house transplant

i jsut recently purchased a 79 1 ton super cab, from new mexico. it had a 460 in it but the gentleman kept it. its spotless. for the price i couldnt pass it up.(300).especially beign in pa and how crap rust out here form teh weather. anyways I have a couple 71 to 76 caddy motors the 501's. 500 horses and 475 pounds of torque at the fly wheel stock. anyways i want to put one of these in this truck for a pulling truck. anyoen have any idea what kinda mods i might encounter? i knwo its alot of work, its either that or i let it sit and be a parts truck for my 78 1 ton super cab. i am nto sure if they make an adapter bell housing to bolt up to the ford 4 speed. i knwo they make them for automatics.

thanks.

Check out advance adapters, they carry a large range of swap plates. Also, you may want to double check your HP numbers on the 501, sounds a little high, but the TQ seems right.

If an adapter is too pricey you may just want to get a GM trans that'll bolt right up to the motor and modify the trans mount as necessary and cut driveshaft if necessary.

That's easy, put the 460 that's laying in the garage in it.

Here's a site for you to check out;

http://www.cad500parts.com/

I believe you will find the 71-73 Cad 500's put out 375h/535t and the 74-76 put down 350h/525t.

dude, go for what you think is right personally i'm a ford lover, i wouldn't dare throw a chev in there for the reason that if your 460 is in top runnin condition leave it cause them 460s are pretty powerful man....... But goin with a caddy engine is pretty smart cause i put a 390 from a 60 caddy in a 84 four speed gmc and them 390s from the 60s put out anywhere from 295 horse to over 300 horsestock man!!!! and yes cadillac did come out with a 390 and there awsome engines!!!!! but its your choice but if it was me i'd throw a 390 it there and it'll pull for ya trust me. good luck and if youd like to get in touch email me at leadley_87@hotmail.com and i'll give you some advice bye.

http://www.500cid.com/index.html Al at Maximum Torque Specialties has everything from mild to wild for the big inch Cad motors. The high nickle content thin wall casting motor is an amazing engine, and only weighs 50 lbs more than a small block chevy. Check out this site there is tons of good information.
