Question Dished vs. flat topped pistons?

Is there any differance in performance with open chambers and the same compression(9.0-9.5)?
with the flats down in the hole and the dished up at the deck.

just some thought for my up comming 400 rebuild.

You would get a lot less preignition with the dish pistons that set up higher on the outside edge. When you run flat tops that sit low in the hole the void created in the cylinder will cause problems. I went from 9:1 flat to 10:1 dished and have less ping.

Probably the best situation with a 400 is to zero deck the block and use dished pistons. Decent compression and much less pinging.

Milling >.056 off the block is a scary proposition IMO. I'd be more inclined to find some pistons with a taller comp. height.

As long as the milling is done to match the intended pistons, I don't see a problem. True, it might make future rebuilds a problem.

I've heard of people using 300 I-6 pistons in the 400, but in that case, the piston has to be milled.

How much could you safely mill off the heads for decent compression, my aim is 8.7-8.9 Static. I can't run more than 91 Octane, since I live above 3000 feet.
