Gear selection for automatic
I have a 00' F250 SD SC 4x4 with the 5spd. I am getting rid of it and getting an automatic. There is a BIG difference in the two, the hp and torque is right there w/ the 5spd, but the E40D seems mushy and loses alot of performance. I have the 3.73's now and am wondering if I would want 4.30's with the auto. I have to haul our water where I live so there is 4000 lbs of water in the back of the truck twice a week or more. Gas mileage is anyhwere from 11 to 14mpg. Anyone have a comment on the 4.30's vs. 3.73's w/the auto?

I would say that the 4:30's will get you terrible fuel mileage. I got 4:10's and I am very happy with the truck. You will notice a big difference from 3:55, or 3:73's. With 4:10's/auto, anywhere from 12 to 15 MPG.. Good luck..
