Hello, i recently got a 84 302 shortblock out of a F250 with a manual transmission I dont know which tranny as it was already gone from the truck. I am rebuilding it and am going to install it my 77 f100 2wd with an automatic c4. I have the harmonic balancer that was on it. I know from reading other post that 82 and up needs a 50 oz imbalance flexplate, and my 77 has a 28 oz so i will need a new flexplate; however, when i was looking at my summit cataloge they had a choice of two 50 oz flexplates. One with 157 teeth and one with 164 teeth. i don't know which one i need? and will my starter that is on my 77 work with the new flexplate or will i have to buy a new starter too? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Fastest, quickest, best(es), is to go to your local recycle center "junk yard" , tell them what you have and they should supply you with the correct harmonic blancer and flexplate for your application. They may make you a good deal on a swap for your C4 to C6 transmission as well. Just be sure the used harmonic balancer is tight and the rubber insert is not cracked or deteriorated. This style Ford harmonic balancer is a three piece pressed sandwich with inner steel, rubber, outer steel. Front pan gasket leaks and age, can deteriorate the rubber on these units so be careful and good luck!
