main seal leak

main seal leak

i have an 88 f150. the main seal is leaking uncontrollably. it is a straight 6. will i have to pull the engine to replace that seal?

Nope. Just pull the tranny, Flywheel/flexplate and you're there.

If ya got a manual tranny, now would be a god time to put in a new clutch too, especially if the Rear main went bad.

If a slushbox, just drain, change fluid and filter.

Heres a tip for ya, If is difficult getting the old seal out, Take a drill and a small drill bit and drill to small holes in the seal across from each other, then thread in two screws and use the backside of a claw hammer to pull it out. smear some grease on the drill bit to help keep shavings from getting into the engine
