i just brought a 86 ranger it has a blown head gasket, and im just wondering if there any thing eles id need to do besides just replace the gaskets, iv taken the value covers and intake off and theres a lot of water in the heads should i let all the water dry out b4 i replace the head gaskets? BTW im new to the forum
Head gasket failure is not common on the 2.9s, cracked heads are, have the heads magnafluxed. Also inspect the oil for coolant, if it was run with coolant in the oil the bottom end may need to be rebuilt.
