I could have won it, but I didn't think there was any way it would reach his reserve price. I figured, I'd just deal with him after the auction ended. Take my time, go look at the boat etc...But nooooooo, somebody rained on my parade. Oh well. If that other bidder didn't rain on my parade, the wife would have hailed on it :-)
I probably would have left it in the boat for one summer. Just to have some fun. Then, I dont know, it'd probably go in a mustang. Of course, I dont have the money for any of that.
that would have been sweet behind your truck greg, 446FE powered truck, 427FE powered boat, now thats a combo, i got a question for you greg would you have left that 427 in the boat or would you have put it in another vehicle?
Look on the bright side. Maybe you got sniped by some kid who wasn't going to buy it anyway. Maybe you could e-mail the guy and let him know you're interested in being a backup buyer. (don't know if that's e-bay legal)

Way ahead of you! I already sent him an email. I almost put 15k in for my max, then decided it wasn't going to reach the reserve regardless, so I just went to like $12.5k (I figure the motor is worth almost that much. ...I was wrong about his reserve. I think the winner has done good if he goes through with it.
There is some chance that the bidder is a no-show :-) But then there's that wife issue again....
LOL........ya I caught that one the other day. Sweet.
I'd like a few more shots of that motor. Just to make sure it's a HR. Granted it's still worth the money paid.
I think it would have looked pretty cool behind my black '64 Galaxie with the big 6-71 hanging off the top of my 390 . Course it would have looked good behind just about anything I have
not to rain on your parade, but wouldnt that be set up as a marine engine ? our boat has a inboard 360/390 dont know which it is havent checked, but i do know it is a marine application, nothing could really be used in a truck, and believe me with my truck engine in mortal pain right now i have thought of it alot. but i think even the internal parts are configured differently, but what do i know, my truck engine is dead
Nope, you can use a marine engine in a truck and vice versa. Marine engines are usually set up a little loose on clearances. For instance mains and rods in a automotive app are usually setup around .0015 and a marine is around .003. I set my 460 up in my jetboat at .0035 just for the fact that I spin it at 4000 rpm all day long and up to 5800 on the bottle. There are some other small thing like brass core plugs and some stainless hardware but for the most part its the same configuration between the two. Hope that helps. Here's a link to a pic of my boat with a 460. http://www.hotboatpics.com/pics/show...t=1&thecat=998

How could you tell whether or not it was a reverse crank engine? Or were these only used in tandem engine set ups to counter the torque of the second engine? A set of these recently sold on Ebay for about $4500. 427/300 hp Marine
71,
my understanding is that they use a reverse rotation trans, like a Velvet drive.
I'm learning about this, as I rebuilt my old 58 Bellboy, so I'm no expert .
