I am trying to put back together a 1974 f-150, and i am mostly done. My problem is the part of the wiring harness for the ignition and the gauge sending units has been cut. I got a replacement piece but the colors are not matching up. Does anybody have a wiring diagram for this? It is all I need to do to get the engine fired up and I don't have a clue
Basically the cluster connectors are the same from 73-86
There is a 14 pin connector for trucks witrh idiot llights & an 18 pin connnector for trucks with gauges..
I assume you are asking about the wires under the hood going to the oil pressure S/U & the Temp S/U ?
it's from the firewall to the engine. Behind the dash is okay. Basically where the harness splits into two the part that goes to the engine has been cut. I got everything that goes from the firewall to the starter solenoid to the alternator to the voltage regulator fine. The truck will crank over.
The wires that go to the coil, the gauges, and the distrubutor have been cut. The harness i got to splice in does not match the colors. I'm stuck
i made a little progress. I found two wires that have constant power and connected them to the coil positive side and the orange wire on the distributor. I don't know what the gauge wires are and there is a power wire that comes on and off repeatedly that i don't know what is for. I'm done for the day but any advice for tuesday when i start up on it again would be appreciated
distributor black wire-- black on ign module
dist purp/blue-- purp/blue on ign module
oil press-- white/red
temp-- red/white
other ign module wires--->
gr/yel- coil neg
red/gr- batt
blue- to gr/red on regulator (either one)
red/bl-- to seatbelt interlock and backup lamp switch
have any other unknown wires, let me know what colors they are and where they are coming from. $15 will buy you a cheapo Haynes manual with the wiring diagrams in them.

PS-----> the orange wire to the dist goes to the orange wire to the ign module not constant power.
