5 speed transmission

I am buying an 88 F-150 that needs a tranny. The junkyard said there are seven different possibilities. The door sticker says code "M". Can anyone help with what I need. Where on the tranny does it give the ratio? That is what the guy said was different. Thanks in advance.

Code M would be the M5OD 5 speed transmission. Personally I would bite the extra buck and go for a ZF 5 speed transmission, which is a heavier duty.

Ryanp: I am interested in a ZF. Whats the story. Where in Florida are you? I am about 30 miles west of Dothan, AL. A small town called New Brockton.

i have a 98 cummins turbo diesel waiting to go into my truck....and i'm going with the NV4500 5 speed since it bolts right up to the cummins engine....there is nothing wrong with the ZF...perfect shape has 120k miles on it....no leaks or drips or funny sounds...my truck is a 4x4 so it has the adapter and all...although i now see that your truck is a 4x4 as well. I live in tallahassee...not very far from you at all...hell it's still in the truck you can even drive it if you like....looking to pull it out next weekend. lemme know if you are interested. thanks i have it posted in the classified section and you can email me from there...makes it easier since i'm not on here everynight....later
