Alright I have a leak on the Left header (looking from under the hood). When the truck is running for about 5 mintues, if you look underneath the truck, you can see where the header meets the exahuast pipe. About right where they meet its smokes very bad. You can tell its from oil just spilling on it, because its all chared. What is causing this? I have had the valve covers replaced and new gaskets put on. Whats the problem...? I am trying to sell it so I need to get this fixed. Please help ASAP. Thanks!
Man... thats what I was hoping it wasnt, but im sure it is... i guess.... Do you have a thread or article that shows how to change the gasket. Is it pretty straight forward..., how much do they weight? Are gaskest sold at normal part stores. Thanks...
The iron factory manifolds weight like 80lbs or something crazy. It is a chore to remove it. It's even harder to set it back down without destroying your seal. Some people remove the hood, since they can stand over the engine. Others use a hoist or a an additional person to help.
Use the search feature to find many previous threads on installing the manifold. You will have to unhook all of the obvious stuff, as well as the rocker arms, since the pushrods come thru an FE manifold. There have been many debates over wether to use the cork end seals or not. I think most of the guys here choose not to use them, and use a thick 1/4" bead of RTV instead.
