I have been told to look on the door, but im not sure what im looking for. I want to take the rear end out of an 85 king cab 2wd and put it into a 86 short cab 4 wd. Of couse, been told to make sure the gear ratio matches front and back. Looked on the door, but not sure what i am looking for.....
There should be a metal vehicle certification label on the driver's side door or door pillar. The label is about 2" x 3" in size.
On the bottom part of the label should be something like "axle" and a number/letter code below it. Once you have the axle code, you will know the axle type and ratio that was installed when the truck was built. If the '85 has the same axle code as your '86, you are good to go.
