i have a 1996 explorer, and within the past 2 weeks, it has been riding terribly. I have taken it to the shop, and the guy said my problem was two 02 sensors(the only two i havent already had replaced) and the spark plugs. Well, it drove good for about a day after, and it started riding terrible again. What it does, is usually when taking of, slowing down, or turns, it either rides really rough, or it dies. It seems to be idling very low, but ford-house said it was the perfect idle, although it has never idled that low before(around 450 rpm, sometimes lower). When I took it to ford house, they said that cylinders 1,2,and 6 are plugged up and, "missing". But i dont trust them anymore because i just got new breaks and sparkplugs, and ford house said i needed new breaks and new sparkplugs, within 2 weeks of me having both of that done. I am thinking that the fuel filter may be the problem. Does anyone have any previous experience with this, help, or hints or anything? Thanks in advance
Does your "svc engine" light come on? I'm guessing that they saw an O2 lean code and decided that it was bad sensors. If that's the case, I'd have the fuel pressure checked. You could also have a bad IAC motor which would mainly affect your idle ( or your return to it). Another possibility would be a cam sensor, ( but that would give you a constant light). If your light is coming on, take it to the parts house and see if they will pull your codes for you.
Like stepman sez, get the codes pulled & post them here. First sign of a clogged fuel filter will show up as lack of power at high speeds. Take a look at the required maintenance section in your owners manual. Are you up to date on that??
