I bought my truck with a set of aftermarket gauges and they were installed in the dash on each side of the speedo. where the round circles are !! The oil one works fine the problem is that the amp gauge isn't hooked up and not sure how to hook it up !! Never hooked up a aftermarket amp gauge before I always relied on my idiot lights for that !!
Any help would be appreciated.
Unlike a voltmeter, make sure that the amp meter is hook in series.
The main in wire to the amp meter is hooded up on the main wire on the generator or alternator before the ignition switch and the other wire gets hookup on power wire to the starter relay, never ground it. I believe that is the way to hook it up, you might want to check up on that.
I would recommend not using the amp gauge. Even the high quality ones such as Stuart Warner have been known to short out and start fires. The hot rod folks have been using volt meters for years now and still recommend against using ampmeters. Some factory gauges use an induction type setup though, where the wires an not hooked to the gauge but pass through a loop on the back of the gauge. no contact with actual voltage = no chance of shorting out. hope this helps. BTW, I've been a mechanic for a few more years than I care to remember and have seen more problems with ammeters than volt meters.
