what is the best way to install the piston pins on my 300 rebuild?
i have read somewhere about heating up the rod first so the pin will press through easier. and how do you make sure you get the rod centered on the pin? i have new pistons pins and resized rods. also have a 12ton shop press but i don't want to hurt the pistons just pressing the pins through.

It's worth it to pay a machine shop to do it. Pressing them in will damage the pistons. The proper method is to heat the small end of the rod and freeze the pin. Then the pin should just fall into place, but you have to be quick. Being quick is much esier with the proper tools. Getting the pin perfectly centered isn't a big deal, it just needs to be close.
