If your just rebuilding for general use i would stick with stock pistons and you should'nt have any problems.

well for this rebuild i want some more power so its gonna have home ported heads, three angle valve grind, comp 265 DEH cam. im still wondering what pistons to use, i know flat tops will give me more power but im thinking they might bump the compression up to much and make it detonate on 87 octane gas

I have flat tops in mine and late model heads(pretty much stock except heads)I run the mid grade which is 89 and don't have any problems but if i go to 87 it will ping a bit.
