ive heard some real horror stories concerning replacing an oil pump in a ranger. from what ive read on here on a post or two, in order to remove the pump, you need to remove an engine mount and unbolt the tranny and slide it back to allow the pan and pump to come out. ive got a ranger with a 2.3 four banger. i plan on replacing the pump myself, in the morning as a matter of fact. ive got the truck jacked up and ready to go. but it doesn't seem necessary to remove the tranny or unbolt an engine mount. everything seems like it will go out and in with no problem. does anyone know what is it going to involve?
I just replaced the oil pump in my '94 4.0 Ranger. I had to undo motor mounts and jack the motor up, and then I put blocks under the motor mounts and dropped the jack back down. It was a pain in the butt, but we finally got the oil pan out of there. Thats where we are, had all the parts I needed except that my pickup tube/screen was shot, so I have to go to the dealer to get one. No parts stores have them anywhere. I think that is kind of like highway robbery if you ask me...lol....anyweay, hope to have her bolted back up by tomm night, and then maybe I might have some oil pressure...lmao...good luck to all
I replaced the oil pump in my 2.0 '88 Ranger about 10 yrs ago. I jacked the motor up and ended up dropping the oil pan just enough so I could get to the bolts on the oil pump. Once I had the bolts off the pump I took the pan and pump off at the same time. The pickup tube prevented me from taking the pan off separately with the engine still in the truck. It was a pain but my oil pressure did go up considerably when I was finished. On a side note it turned out that my oil pump was fine, it was my oil pressure sending unit that was messed up. Live and learn!
did my old truck a couple years ago, was a 92 Ranger with a 2.3 L. Had to undo the motor mounts and I just chained the engine to a cherry picker and lifted it about a foot. Had to undo a few things here and there, but all in all it wasn't to bad, took a couple hours. Good Luck
