I was given a couple of what appear to be FE engines from behind a friends house. The only numbers I can come up with are on the rear of the block. They are 26 352, 58 352 can anybody help in id'ing these blocks?
A half moon shape was machined into the end of the 352 and 360 cranks in order to perform machine work on the crank. The 390 and up didn't need this because the rod journals were further away from the crank centerline which allowed adequate clearance for the machine work.
Anbody interested both long blocks? The heads are C8AE-H, and one crank has a half moon and the other has a small slot (square). Make offer. I am in the Austin Texas area
BB, how often have you seen this? It must be extremely rare.
Still, anyone can be confident in their search for a 390 - 428 in knowing that any FE lacking this half moon is definately not a 352 or a 360. That is as solid of an indicator as anything if someone is looking for at least a 390. Search and purchase with confidence!
PF, every '65 and earlier 390 crank I've seen had the half moon. I'm guessing that in '66 when the 428 crank came out they stopped with the half moon since the throw was so big the flange didn't get in the way of hollowing it out and realized they really didn't need it on the 390 either so that's when it changed. Just a guess.
