I recently purchased a 1995 F350XLT dually with the 7.5L 460 V8. She has the 5-speed manual transmission as well. It is a very nice truck but I am not getting very good mileage at all. I know the MPG goes down as the vehicle ages but I've had the engine flushed and tested and she is working perfectly with ideal compression. And I know that these monsters aren't known for economy but I'm only getting 6-7MPG when the truck is empty!! So, I have two questions to ask:
1) How can I increase my MPG (And I don't drive her fast)
2) I have tried to get headers for this model from just about everybody and although I can get them for this model year, I can't get them for my truck because it has a manual transmission?? Apparently those who make them only make them for the automatic version. Where do I go from here??
Sounds like a beast. Do you know what your axle ratio is? Also how many miles have you put on it? I just recently changed the spark plugs and my mileage jumped from 10 to 13. I changed the distributor cap, rotator, wires, and plugs. You should be getting at least 10 empty. Also what kind of driving enviroment are you in, ie hills, city stop and go?
I don't have the manual for her so I can't guess what the axle ratio is just yet. I just went out and bought the plugs and wires and I hope that helps. She has 80,000 miles on her but she runs like new. I mostly use it for highway driving and there are very few major hills. Maybe the fact that it's so cold and the driving in the snow hurts a bit too.
I read about this product called the Typhoon which fits into the air intake (In my case I need 2) and it is supposed to increase mileage because it increases the air flow??
