spare tire carrier rust
I've noticed that some surface rust has started on the hinges of my spare tire carrier...and there's a bit forming on the carrier itself. Has anyone taken those parts off and refinished them? Is there anything I need to know before I get into it? The rust wasn't too prevalent a few months ago, but it's gotten a lot worse over the winter and I'd like to keep it looking nice. Is any sort of paint preferable over the rest?

i would recomend taking them off and sand blasting them and having them powder coated, you can usualy find these services in the yellow pages, some place will even do all the prep work for if you take it off and dissasemble it. Good luck DW

If you dont want to spend the $$ on powder coating, (Which is the best.), then take em off, sand and clean all the rust off of em, primer them and then use a good rust coating paint. I have used krylon and it works good but only if you do a good job of getting the rust off.

hey, i appreciate all the help. i've got a powdercoating place lined up that can do all of it for about $60!! anyone want to try and help me figure out what to do with the black coating on my rearview mirrors that's starting to wear off??
