Gotta admit I cringe a little every time I hear "Legendary Hemi" in one of those commercials. And I bet some of the original Dodge Factory Engineers, The Ramchargers, have rolled an eye or two themselves.
It is NOT a "legendary Hemi"!! It is not a 392...or a 426...or a Keith Black or other specialty racing Hemi.!! It is a new dodge engine with hemispherical heads!!
Legendary status has to be earned, not some sugar coating glossed on by a PR agency on Madison Avenue. Maybe it will earn that status. I'm just tired of all the "legendary hype".
I hope all Dodge owners love their trucks as much as I do my Screw. What did my family do when we got our new Ford. Broke it in a little... Then went to Disney World. (Sounds like a commercial? The "Legendary Disney World".)
The new Hemi is also made in mexico. Im not sure but i really doubt the ol true hemi was made anywhere but in the US. Kinda like watching a spanish version of "the dukes of hazard"
What irony is that? A real 4v Hemi would be so long and wide to get the valves to fit that it wouldn't fit in a RAM...well maybe in the bed. Other non-dodge vehicles are more true to being "hemi". Like my favorite as I have mentioned before...1983 escort. "It's gotta hemi"
Hemi isn't some great technology that makes more power, it's not something that is safer, or more reliable. What it is is a fantastic marketing concept (kudos Chrysler) to use on the general public to allow them to buy into a word, that they think embodies more power, safer and reliable and whatever....but is no more then any other engine.

Let's not forget about the "K" car with the Hemi! From what I understand, , the extra horse power that the"famous" 426 Hemi produced was defeated by the extra weight it had to carry from those massive heads. But you have to admit, they sure LOOK cool!
my 3.0L was made in lima ohio usa. but as for that hemi its a big piece of poop ive replaced a rod and pistion and a head cuz it droped a valve gotta love it. it was the first year the hemi came out . and its at 130000+- miles. it drives form los angles to toledo then back to detroit every other week since it was bought
Originally posted by bassaway Fords new 3-valve 5.4 is made in Michigan, USA. I beleive my V-6 in the ol Ranger was built in Michigan also.
Built or assembled? I hope you're right, we need more products built HERE. When the head gasket leaked on my '01 Screw, I was told at the dealer that the heads were made in Mexico, & They were having problems with debris being in them, getting between the gasket surfaces. They ended up replacing the whole engine at 4,200 miles. Every time I work on my Harley made in USA, I find more & more parts made in Japan, Germany,Mexico, ect. Outsourcing has become a sad fact of life here, and it's only getting worse.
Hemi... Thought they were supposed to have so much power??? I took my uncle in his brand new Hemi...W/ my 98 GTP w/ a 3.8L s/c'd. And the GTP only has intake and a 3.4" pulley on it. It was funny
I want to go to a dodge dealer now and ask if the engine has the hemispherical heads haha. I've heard that before though, I think I read it in a mag somewhere. -William
OUtsourcing<<<< HA! Exactly what it is. Sending OUR work away to be done cheaper. ASk me...i should know. I am a former Boeing mechanic who lost my job because of outsourcing. None of us blue collar guys are safe anymore and my former union couldn't do squat to help any of us in my situation, except say,"Well...maybe you'll get called back" THank You NAFTA!!!
