1991 Ford Super Duty... The auto transmission was repaired 2 years ago. Since then I haven't put many miles on it. Recently when I would put it in drive it would be in 2nd gear instead. The overdrive will not work and the RPM gauge does not register. When I shut off the motor and restart its back to normal. Now it doesn't matter if I shut it off or not, as I'm driving is dropping out of drive into 2nd and the RPM stops as well as the OD switch. Before I take it to the transmission guy has anyone got any suggestions?
That's a tough problem. Sounds like it's probably electrical rather than a mechanical issue with the tranny. Might try posting this down in the transmission forum... more specific help is available there.
Sounds like maybe the TPS sensor or the CPS. But usually the engine dies when a CPS goes, so i doubt it. I assume you have a E4OD correct? When was it rebuilt? Is the check engine light on? does the o/d light blink?
Hello This could be possible ground problems. Check all of them, and the ones for the dash this could be part of the problem IT'S worth a look hope it helps,
Good luck hope for less mony!
Thanks.....so far so good. I had a b..... of a time trying to convince 'the guys' that the TPS might be the problem. The transmission guy hooked up the scanner and said that it wasn't working. Great someone agreed with us!!
I had another mechanic/computor man replace the TPS. After I left the shop and $200 + later the transmission started doing the same stuff. Of and on.... so back to tranny man and this time the scanner wouldn't work but thats another story. Two hours later I left there in low gear ...and after 10 minutes on the road it started working and now everthing seems to be going well. Someone mentioned it takes a while for the computor to read the new part.
Anyways ...thanks alot
