Hi, i am thinking about doing the 10K mod and/or getting a chip. With gauges, an intake and exhaust, do chips/the 10K mod hurt engine life. I'd like more power, but i also want this engine to last a long time.
I doubt if anyone will ever have an engine failure due to a 10K resistor. It's not making that much of a change.
You can run a 10K "stacked" with a chip. I did for more than 70,000 miles. It worked great with a 80hp superchip program, but I recently removed the resistors because my most recent dyno proved that the resistor was costing me power with the current chip.
Just curious, but how was it costing you HP? I dont think I will get too far into the mods yet , but would like to understand how the 10K mod would take power away?
Well, my best guess is it was over advancing the timing a litte bit. I think Bill (my old programmer) used a little bit of timing with his fuel program, and the resistors added to that was a little over the top. I lost 12HP on the dyno and the injectors were rattling like a cummins. No such problems since I removed them, and after resetting the PCM the truck is running better than it ever has, so I'm also thinking maybe my ICP was getting tired. Don't know really.
I might have to put them back in, or try a resisted clamping circuit after I get the water injection set up, water has the effect of retarding the timing a few degrees, so I should be able to get away with it and make even more power.
Thanks cookie88, I am still kinda new to diesels and dont really understand these things yet. It is always interesting reading these forums though. Thanks again.
