My guess is, it's the "Reverse Idler Shaft Fixing Bolt". Sorta near the bottom passenger side of the case? It locks the reverse idler shaft in position, so if it's loose, the idler shaft may have moved. Opening up the trans may be a good idea.

i have never heard of a reverse idler shaft fixing bolt. can you explain it a little more? it did not afect the way it drove it still goes into reverse and drives good for a m5od. i really dont want to open it up unless i really have to.the trany has only 30to40 thousand miles on it,i had a shop put it in when the last one shot craps on me. realy exspensive

My quote was straight out of the manual. Based on your description, that was my best guess.
