Hey Everyone,
got a 3.0 and wanting to get rid of the irritating speed governor at 100mph. I know the hypertech and superchip programmers can get rid of it in the 4.0 set up but Ive seen nothing when it comes to the 3 0's. Anyone got any ideas? Im sure its electronically controlled but who is gonna come up with a bright idea and start making some real performance products for the 3.0? The James Duff chip is so-so for power but they cant program it for speed limiter purposes. Any info would be greatly appreciated... Oh yea, one more thing...Ive been looking for a mild cam for this engine and cant find none either anyone know of a good place to find any at all?
I would ask this question in the chip forum, our parts store guys (motorhaven.com) know a lot about them and I'm pretty sure they can program one for you.
A quick question if I may? Unless your bracket racing your truck, why would you want to disable the governor if it's set at 100mph? The stability of the vehicle is questionable at anything above 85 mph and without any aerodynamic changes such as air dams and spoilers the front end is prone to "float" and the rear end will barely be in contact with the road. I once did 103 mph in an unmodified '69 Mustang and the thing nearly floated off the road. Lesson learned. If you want to go fast, better invest in some aerodynamic equipment first.
bracket racing? aerodynamics is out of the question....Im not gonna be a push cart and run a 8 inch high spoiler and get a dumb air dam...my friends have older trucks...mostly imports and they dont have a speed governor...or air dams or anything of the sort...they dont have upgraded suspensions...nothing...kinda gay to be flying through highways and not be able to keep up with 10+ older year trucks??? their going 120....at 100 mph it feels tooo stable to think that 10 more mph would cause it to "float" with 245/30/19 dunlop 9000 tires and a slammed truck...120 wouldnt be out of the question...perhaps you should speed more often in a truck more applicable for speed???
OK...so now your post makes some sense. What you want to do is break the law because others are doing it. Fine, I thought (how stupid of me) you would be speeding in a place such as a well designed drag strip not on a highway designed for seventy miles per hour or less and including families just out for the groceries.
By the way a "slammed" truck is more aerodynamically stable (and does have a modified suspension) because the air can't get under it as easily. Your original post mentioned nothing of any modifications whatsoever. How stupid of me to assume that you meant what you said.
Just because you choose to ignore the laws of physics and the law, doesn't marginalize my post. Others may learn that it takes more than desire to drive at 100+ mph in order to do it safely never mind legally. I'm sorry if I offended your sensibilities. Believe it or not, I used to be ten feet tall and bulletproof.
Good luck and may God bless. You're going to need both.
Thanks for your sarcasm...and if u really care then thanks again...yes, Im young and have been in numerous accidents...some very close to death. But considering the amount of driving I do everyday and how "common sense" can save a life trust me, I use it. I dont speed recklessly, but responsibly if those words can be used in the same sentence

You talk of "common sense" and not being reckless, yet you want to exceed the limitations inherent with an unmodified truck. And why? So you can keep up with others who mock common sense with foolish driving that places lives in danger. It would seem that "numerous accidents... some very close to death" might be a clue to you. Being young and being wise are not mutually exclusive, but they take some work to come togather. We all wish you well - we've been where you are now.
Dono
Dont know how to take the chip out however i know where u are comin from with the speed is what u need motto keep on searching for your chip and if u find it DO TELL cause i am very curious as to how to as well
There was never an intention in my post to be cute nor sarcastic. I truly care not just about you but also the others who may read our posts. As I said before one cannot ignore the laws of physics.
I agree with Dono that youth and wisdom are not mutually exclusive but please understand that this is not just about you. It is also about the others who may be endangered by you and your friends out racing on roads that are not designed for the speeds that you crave. I submit that there is no such thing as "speeding responsibly" outside of the racetrack or dragstrip.
Just for the "wisdom" part, as you know, but for the benefit of those who don't, kinetic energy of a moving object is equal to one half the mass (your truck) times the velocity (feet per second) squared. So based on the formula the kinetic energy increases not linearly but exponentially as the velocity increases. What may "feel" stable and safe at one speed may really be right on the edge of safety and an additional two to three miles per hour may not. The speed limiter is not there to limit your good times, but is put there for a variety of reasons (aerodynamic limitations as stated before) including the amount of energy your braking system can safely dissipate in bringing your vehicle to a safe stop.
My original post was to point out that there are many reasons why things are the way they are. I meant it when I apologized for offending your sensibilities. I was hoping that you would take it in the spirit in which it was intended. An opportunity to learn.
Your blessings and advice are greatly appreciated. I totally agree with you and I can see why my urge to go over the speed limiter may trouble some. But just keep in mind that Ive lost many to crashes and like I said before almost lost my own life in a few. I dont speed when there are people near me and believe it or not I am a responsible driver. But again, thank you for caring.
