HELP! I have a 2002 explorer sport trac. The rearview mirror shakes going at just about every speed. I bought it new on 6-02 and have had it back to the dealer numerous times. They now claim there is nothing else to try. So it is headed for the dispute settlement board. If anyone knows what might be causing this vibration, please tell me the fix. Otherwise has anyone had any dealings with this dispute board? I love my sporttrac but can't stand the mirror shaking.
I have a 2000 Eddie Bauer, after I had my windshield replaced the rearview mirror got the shakes real bad. long story short, The fix was a new mirror that the glass company bought.
I've had 2 new windshields, a new mirror, they have tried mirrors off other vehicles, tried different wheels and tires, a new drive shaft, front end alignment, balance the tires and I don't remember what else. This has gone on for almost 2 years. I'm beginning to believe there is somthing major wrong with this vehicle.
We have a 95 Explorer which also has an inside rearview mirror that shakes. I have always just attributed it to the fact that it has so much "stuff" on it - the controls for the autolamp system as well as the auto dimming mirror. None of our other vehicles have this problem, but none of them have all the extra gear attached to the miror. I have always just thought that it was the nature of the beast.
I have a 97 Explorer that had the same problem. I bought a replacement mirror on eBay for $20 (I had the auto-dim kind with the autolamp feature, and it would have been around $200 for a new one at the dealer), and it seemed somewhat better for a while, but then it got worse. I'm not sure about the 2002, but the design on the 97 mirror was horrible. There is no set screw to tighten it down, and the metal clamp that sits on the thing glued to the windshield eventually gets loose. I finally bought a cheap $15 mirror at Kragen because I couldn't stand the shakes anymore. The cheap mirror has a set screw, and it is tight and doesn't shake at all. I was a little sad to lose the autodim (although being high up and with tinted back window, I don't really have much glare problem anyway), but I never used the autolamp, and I am just happy to have a mirror that is rock solid, even if I gave up the bells and whistles.
am i the only one thinking this but i really don't think your going to get the car replaced due to a mirror shake...sorry just my opinion, best of luck trying though
