roof lights ????????
it has steps fitted with marker lights that are wired straight to the power feed of the sidelights in indicators (the 7watt circuit)
it also has a sunvisor that has roof markers , they are LED and 3 out of 5 dont work so i wish to replace them, im having trouble finding LEDs over here that are bright enough.
my questions is if i put 5 bulbs of about 5watt each on the visor is that too much load for the light switch or do the side lights/running lights go through a relay ?
if i wire it straight to the light switch it will have:
2 side lights at rear
4 sidelights at front
8 on both the steps
plus the 5 i put on the roof
19 lights of between 3-7 watts each????? all coming off the standard light siwtch or is there a relay?
AMPS=Watts/Volts
Volts=Watts/Amps
Say 19 bulbs @ 5 watts each = 95 watts Divide that by 12volts and you get 7.91Amps (Round it up to 8) thats a bit high for the Headlamp switch, unless you enjoy throwing money away and ripping the dash out all the time(sarcasm! What a concept!)
I'd rewire all the lamps so that the headlamp switch is running a heavy duty RELAY, and wire the other side of the relay directly to the battery with a 10amp fuse. Use 12ga wire for all circuit wiring.
This will cut down on the heat that the headlight switch makes as the load is substantially decreased..
While you are doing that, go ahead a get 2 more relays and do the headlights the same way. There is an article called Brighter Brights, Whiter Whites in the Tech area. It works really well and your headlamp switch will stay fairly cool. I did my 93 this way about 6 months ago. Before there was a couple of hot spots on the dash just near the switch, now the whole area is cool to touch.
Hope this helps.
