I know this is a ford sight and am ready to take the heat for this but hey a gear head is a gear head right? What I need is a 4 speed manual transmission that will bolt up to a sb 350.Id like it complete and functioning but Ill settle fot whatever. Its my dads truck its a 92 ranger xlt and he has a high performance chevy drive train thats got a aotomatic on it.i think hes nuts its got a shift kit and all but hes old school and wants the 4 speed. If anyone can help Id appreciate it
You reasoning for coming to a Ford site for this is unique. Trying to find a tranny for a SB is not difficult. Call your local Speed shop, or any “chain” tranny shop they will have them. It will not be hard to find, just let your fingers do the walking through the yellow pages.
I am assuming this thread is meant in seriousness, so rather than flame you for your request i will direct you to www.67-72chevytrucks.com and they have a board there for the year of truck you require parts for. I have both chevy and ford trucks in my stable and have found alot of good info there. there is also many other sites you could find googling for chevy trucks. Its how i got here for ford trucks. search ebay too i saw a four speed on there recently searching under 73-87. in the future to avoid those who dont want to deal with chevy questions here you could try there or at www.chevytalk.com email me direct if you need any other chevy sites
Kinda of like having a man's exterior but female parts on the inside. HA! Come back anytime and ask, even though the ford - chevy dual has been raging for years, you said it right. A gear head is a gear head.
Since it's a chev motor/tranny in a ford truck, he's sorta got a "toy". I'm not sure how old the existing tranny is, but if it were mine I'd look for a Muncie M21 or ideally a M22 (closer ratio). Dad will have to dig in the wallet a bit for these, especially the M22. Now if the SB is not exactly a screamer, I'd be thinking about a 5 speed out of an early/late 80's camaro or T/A. They should be somewhat abundant and more reasonably priced. BTW, if dad shops around for one of these 5 speeds, not only will he run into a fairly close ratio tranny, but he should like OD for the quieter cruise as well as better mileage and engine longevity.
