axle hydralic steer

I just purchased a truck with a 85' body, with a unknown frame. It has 10 bolts on the front and rear axles and they look identical except the drive shaft in the front inputs higher. It also has a hydralic ram on the front axle for steering. Also the front axle is of closed knuckle design. It has 8 bolt lugs w/ 16.5 rims. With a thick twin stack of leaves in the back. No tags on axles.

1 What axles might i have?
2 What year frame, truck would have the hydralic steering? looks factory.

Your question is kind of broad. You have a truck with an unknown frame? Is this a cab swap type deal or a stock truck that you are just trying to find info on. From what it sounds like the running gear could be 3/4 ton or even 1 ton. Sounds like you may have a pair of Dana 60 axle's. And the front axle would be a high pinion axle. This is just an educated guess from the info you have given.

Ok, now that I have found your other post things are starting to make more sense. It sounds like you have an 85 body on possibly an early to mid 70's 3/4 ton or 1 ton frame. I would say that probably do have a pair of Dana 60 axle's. The hydrualic ram you see could possibly be the power steering. I am not too familiar with the older set ups so I cannot back that up. Without a pic it is hard to tell. Are there hoses going to the Hydraulic ram? If not it could also be a steering stabilizer.

thank you for the input. The ram on the front axle does have hoses connected to it from the pump. with a sensing linkage.

it is older than 78, does the front end have open or closed knuckles, and does it have disc or drum breaks in the front?

Ok, so its older than 76, so far we have eliminated 3 years. I think there is a supposed to be a VIN code somewhere on the frame, someone else hopefully will chime in and let us know, from that we can get to exact year. The front can be either a D60 or a D44HD. The rear is probably a D60

352 ci, thqt is part of the FE family, i beleive the 352 was discontinued in 68. How do you know it is a 352? Very hard to tell the difference of a 352 and a 360.
