I have the CD/Tape combo and was wondering if there is a "CD Line In" in the back of it for a CD changer? Or does ford use a different In Dash CD player in conjunction with a changer?
My interest is to tie my MP3 player into the stock stereo.
i have a 97 f-150 and a 2001 SD 250. a buddy of mine sold me his single cd ford stereo for my 97 and it didn't have any " cd in" plugs on it, but i had to buy an adaptor kit bc the cd player puts out more than the regular tape player i had. my 2001 SD has the 6 disc in dash changer which is super sweet and i read somewhere it has like 80 watts of power which i think is pretty nice( can't win nopi but i'll be able to hear when im 50). but if you're interested in a cd changer you might look at like best buy or somewhere another buddy of mine has a 6 disc changer that works off of an a.m channel. it's pretty neat just turn your stereo to the preset am channel and the cd changer starts to work. hope that helps some!
All of the stock Ford head units I've seen have not had a line in jack. But grayleather is somewhat right, you could purchase an FM Modulator. Many aftermarket CD Changers use this idea, it plugs in between your antenna and the radio. When it's turned on, you tune to a specific station (usually 88.1 to 89.3 FM) and you can hear the music. You can purchase a little FM Modulator made by SoundFeeder that should work good with your MP3 Player.
Yes. The 6-CD radio is an option on all the newer trucks. I've seen 350's and 250 with it installed. I also believe it is part of the Premium Sound System option.
Regarding the Connector for a CD player. I am trading in a ford car that I added an after market CD changer. I plan to take it with me to the F250. Where is the connector located in a supercab? The radio looks very similar to the one from the car. The connector was located in the trunk.
PS, where do you hide stuff in a pickup?
You added an aftermarket cd changer to a Ford radio right. So I'm assuming it's not a Ford OEM changer, and it has a FM Modulator (Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, etc. all have models with them). In that case, you can mount it where ever you want. The only connectors you should need are power (constant, key-on, and ground) and of course the antenna, which just plugs into the radio. It's pretty straight forward unless you have a different setup.
And about the question on where to put stuff in a pickup.... under the seat or behind the seat are pretty much your only options. (Unless you get crafty..)
If I read my owners manual correctly, the Ford CD/Tape combo unit supports a CD player directly off the back of the unit itself. According to the dealer, Ford has contracted with one of the electronics manufacturers to make a Ford logoed product that connects up without a FM modulator. The unit that I have seen Ford logoed in the show room is a 5 disc play.
Check out the Crutchfield catalog. They claim to have several units that connect directly to the Ford combo unit as well as have the units that use the FM modulator.
