My 91 Explorer met an untimely death yesterday when a 24 y/o girl t-boned me causing me to roll onto the roof. I hope her insurance coughs up enough to replace it. I'm not sure if I want another one though since the speed of the accident was'nt that great and still caused me to roll, maybe there is something to small suv s being too tall for their width. Maybe I'll use the settlement to finish my 67 fastback.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Since most accidents are front or rear enders, I'd rather be in an SUV than a compact, plus you see so much more from an SUV and can avoid potential problems. At least your rollover wasn't related to Firestone...
Actually I would try to convince you to get another Explorer.... look at it this way... if you had ben in an Accord or other sedan, or even a small sport ute.. that girl would have hit you square in the door... causing even more problems for you then you have now. Because of the ground clearence of the Explorer, the girl went under the body and caught the frame, hence the roll over.
I was rear ended by an Econoline and pushed into the back of a plumber's truck about 4 years ago in my 92 Explorer... let me tell you... if I was in my wife's car.. they would have had to cut me out of it... but because of how stong the Explorer is, I was able to trip the inertia switch back and pull the fender off the front tire and drive away.... can't say you can do that with a lot of cars out there today.
I am going to check out a 93 tomorrow, hopefully I can get my old one back cheap since the engine is relatively new and a spare A4LD is never a bad thing to have. I've been told you get blue book in a total if true a 91EB is 45 to 5500. I did like the exp better than the BroncoII and my 72 F250 4X4 is entirely too thirsty. If this one I look at tomorrow is not good I may look into a full size bronco.

Buying back from the insurance is real easy. Tell them you want it and they will tell you how much. I bought my wifes 95 back for $1100 and they offered me $5800. I bought around $600 of parts and she is like new again. Just a front end collision, yours is much worse.
But also figure in when you buy, that you'll have alot of interior spare parts, and if you don't want them, EBAY them.
No, not blue book, but the Black Book value. If its too low for what you are expecting, you can ask for a fair market value, where a independent company researches the price of your vehicle in your market. Problem is sometimes it comes back lower than the black book.
Hopefully, you weren't hurt in the accident. Since it was the other pesons fault, you do have some leverage from a personal injury perspective. In cases such as yours, insurance companies love to settle everything quickly. Writing you a check for the book value of you exp is easy. Getting you to sign off on personal injury is a different story. Assuming you're not hurt, I would tell the insurance company you are willing to sign off on everything (vehicle and personal injury) for a specific dollar amount. Make sure you get enough $$ to enable you to replace the vehicle with no cost to you. Also, throw into the negotiation that you want to keep the old exp. Good luck.
Insurance gave me 1900 for it and got the old one back for 90 bucks. Damn towing yard stole my maf sensor. Looking at another 91 when the ck arrives. Maybe this headache will go away.

did you have full collision insurance on it? my rear bumper was barely kissed one time by a girl in a cavilier convertible. (funny how its always girls?),.. and luckily mine was only scratched and not pushed in but hers was pushed in very slightly. she said she was sorry and all and i let the scratch go , and its a pretty big one thats still there. but shes on her own with her car

Make the towing yard pay you for your maf. If they wont tell the insurance company about it, the better business bureau, and see if something happens. If the yard is in the habit of stealing parts, then the insurance company will want to know.
I can finally put the old F250 back into semi retirement again. Bought another 91 Explorer last night. When I first started it the lifters rattled pretty good but they quit ticking after a bit and it runs good. Its not an EB this time but the body is in way better shape. I said no more Ranger series trucks after the ol lady traded in our BroncoII on a taurus but a free Explorer was too hard to turn down. Changed the motor and liked it. Even a rollover didnt discourage me from another one, I guess these are nice vehicles after all, just a pain to work on. Having a spare drive train helps too.
