Good news on your truck. I had the same kind of response on my 1999. Ordered the March 4, '99 and picked it up on my birthday, April 2, '99 and it had been sitting on the dealers lot for just over a week. The 5.4 is what got you the quick build time as that is not a demand engine so there are enough in stock to do the builds quickly.
BTW, I like my 5.4. My mileage ranges anywhere from 14.5 to 17.1 depending on my driving style for the day.

I guess there would have to be a difference for the extra weight they can haul.I'm also guessing you have a 2WD truck to get that kind of gas mileage, I am currently getting about 10 1/2 miles to the gallon. I suppose winter is the culprit + has anybody noticed that when it is cold out the truck will not shift into od till it gets warmed up? That seems dumd to me as the engine really races on the highway, is it that important to get it up to opperating temp. as soon as poss.? I've heard that 4WD really cuts into your gas mileage too. About the rearend...I wish Ford would offer a better limited slip, the stock 1 really doese'nt work that well.

Tonneau,Cyclops kill switch, bed mat, tail gate guard, european style marker lights, superchip chip, and one of those Ford logos that light up.
More bad news, your slug is getting nearer.
Did you read between the lines? "The 5.4 is what got you the quick build time as that is not a demand engine so there are enough in stock to do the builds quickly." I read it,"Not a demand engine". I waited 6 months for my V10 because it's the only gas engine that will move the truck without drag racing rear ratios. My V10 w/3.73 gears gets 10-12 mpg, it's a truck - that's it. If you want gas mileage, buy a Honda.I read the letters in here and wonder if this is the same yuppy crowd that buys a Harley but doesn't know which end is the front. This forum is to HELP YOU, not a place to read your own letters and say,"Only the people who agree with me are knowledgeable."

Now clean off the picture window of your mobile home, pop a cold Busch and sit there a look at your truck, and tell yourself how great you are, because no doubt you spent all of the money you saved up from pumping gas to buy that truck.
Hey Jimbo
Ignore people with the bias attitudes. Last time I checked, this site is for individuals who love their Fords. I, personally know alot of people with the 5.4 and love it. If you do not need the bigger engine, then who cares what others think. But take it easy on the "trailer park" stuff as some choose to live in mobiles, not have to.
LAST EDITED ON 14-Feb-01 AT 04:09 PM (EST)[p]I live north of the Mason Dixon line,so the "mobile home" comment does not apply. You assume I drink alcohol, and spend "all" of my money on gas. I do not need alcohol to suppress my hostilities as others do.I'm not getting into money, although I own a '99 Expy w/5.4 and, of course, my thirsty SD. Let me lower myself to your level for just a minute - you have something I don't, a monthly payment. If you can't take criticisms, don't get involved in a forum. Thank goodness I didn't explain the waste of money getting the one-ton was. Rides like a roman chariot. Turn your ball cap back around - you're done reading the screen.
take it easy guys. why do you suppose they offer 45 different configurations of the super-duty. the applications for these trucks are as varied as the people who use them.
for myself, i do alot of milage with no weight in the back, and only occasional towing of a 22' trailer and a 20' boat. for me the 5.4 makes sense. i figured if i got a truck with some over-kill, it would last longer. if i was towing a landscape trailer or hauling a load all day, every day, then the v-10 or deisel would make sense to me. but i can't see feeding a v-10 all of the time, even at idle for the type of driving i do.
but lets face it, the ego thing is there for all of us. thats why i went with the f-350 over the f-250, and if i could have order a f-450 with a bed, i would have got one of those.if gas hadn't gone up to where it is, i would have oppted for the v-10 just for braggin rights.
back to the ego thing. who doesn't get a charge out of showing off their new truck to their friends or having complete strangers come up and complement you on your rig. but i don't think you should let it go to your head and take whacks at other guys trucks. ( well, maybe some of those chevy guys)

i must have ordered my 01' SD v10 from the #1 volume dealer in the country. you guys are talking about ordering in october and getting them in jan. or something. i ordered mine at closing time nov. something after thanksgiving. the dealer said check back on dec.15 i called a week before the 15th and my truck had just been unloaded i picked it up on dec.11. this was at akins ford in ga. largest in the southeast, but i dealt direct with the owner lol might have had something to do with it. and just another thing this truck has the greyleather so it wasn't just an easy find at another dealer. my cousin owns a ford dealership and i've never bought a vehical from him but i called just to compare prices and said i wanted grey leather and he laughed and said it wasn't available on 250's.
You got the grey leather? I tried 3 different dealers to get
the grey leather. No dice. They all said I could get it done
at at an after market seat place. Got stuck with the grey
cloth. Oh well.
