ken, i have a 04 f350 4x4 5.4 i've been looking into a kit with intake , exhaust , and programmer ? but guys have said that the exhaust and intake are a waste of money ? gust use the programmer or chip i thought you could only reprogram obd III computers ? what would you do if it was your truck ? i'm looking for more power and mpg!
ONmy 04 i have gibson exhaust, kn intake and did the programmer thing. noticed about 2mpg difference.think the programmer did the most.as for the exhaust?? dont know about power gain but sounds sweet
The chip will tend to give the biggest bang for the buck, followed by the exhaust and intake. They'll make a difference, but it won't be felt as much on such a heavy truck. The reality is the Super Duty needs the V10 as the 5.4 is not enough for the weight.
With the older EEC-IV computers you clean the grease off the connector.
The EEC-V computers, such as the one in your 2004, have a clear rubberized "conformal" coating that needs to be scrapped off or taken off with acetone or fingernail polish remover. Once you do that, the module plugs right in. Very easy.

I HAVE A 5.4 F150, 2004, I PUT THE HELIX POWER/TOWER ON, AND ADDED THE K&N COMPLETE SYSTEM. I PROGRAMED THE ENGINE BY USING HYPER TECH III, I HAD A LAZY THROTTLE TAKING OFF BEFORE I DID THIS. TO GET RID OF THE LAZY THROTTLE ON THE 5.4 ELECTRONIC THROTTLE, JUST TURN ON THE KEY,DO NOT START THE ENGINE, WAIT UNTIL ALL THE BELLS QUIT DINGING, PUST THE THROTTLE PEDAL SLOWLY LET'S SAY 5 TO 10 SECONDS, AND LET OFF THE THROTTLE, WAIT ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME, YOU WILL BE SURPRISED AT THE DIFFERENCE.
NOW ALL THE OTHER ADD ONS I SPOKE ABOUT, WELL WHEN I NAIL THE THROTTLE, MY TRUCK FLAT MOVES OUT AND AS THE AUTOMATIC SHIFTS FROM FIRST TO SECOND, IT BARKS THE TIRES, I RAN IT UP TO 120 MPH BEFORE IT SHIFTED FROM THIRD TO OVER DRIVE, THAT'S WHEN I QUIT. I DON'T DRIVE FAST, BUT THIS WAS ONE TIME I HAD TO CHECK OUT THE F150. I HAVE A 3.55 GEAR, 17" TIRES, DUAL FLOWMASTER EXUAST, AND A CROSSOVER PIPE OR LETS SAY A "H" PIPE.
THIS IS ONE GOOD RUNNING F150, IN COMPARISON TO THE TRUCK BEFORE I DID THE MODS.
