The manual talks about a speed-dependent intermittent wiper "if equipped." I never saw this as an option when ordering the Lariat, and I would have ordered it. My truck definitely does not have it. Has anyone been told by their dealer that it's an option? You can't order it when you build the truck on the Ford web site.
My 03 XLT has speed dependent wipers. I guess Ford has been using them for some time. I make a presumption that they are sort of standard equipment. I can't imagine Ford making them an option.
However, there is so little difference in the speed that I find it of little use.
Lets presume that you have the wipers set about 4 settings up from off and at a stop, they wipe every 6 seconds. At 50 MPH they might wipe every 5 seconds. You will actually need to count to tell the difference. You know the 1001, 1002 routine.
They're supposed to work this way: let's say you set the wipers so they're wiping every 20 seconds, and you're doing 30 mph. If you accelerate to 60 mph, then they'll automatically increase the interval to every 10 seconds, without having to adjust them on your own. There has to be a substantial difference in vehicle speed to notice the difference. They're standard on XLT, FX4 and Lariat.
I see. I was expecting to see a bigger difference. Thanks for the explanation. I thought I'd see a separate setting on the control arm to enable or disable speed-dependency.
