Help!!!!!!!!!!! 92 Ford Bronco. OK guys I have grinded off the rivets and broke the 1 1/8 nut on the end of the RA. Now I find the bracket wont slip off because a piece of the frame prevents the frame bracket from sliding off. The front end is held up by jacks on the two sides of the axle. Will it do any damage to pry the radius arm down about 1 inch so the bracket can slide off. Thanks for any help
Jim

Seeing that some shops will pull the radius arm forward while it's still attached to the axle to change bushings, moving it only an inch will not hurt it if the bracket is unbolted/unriveted. Assuming you have the big nut off, you can slide the frame bracket back until it clears the arm and any frame ridges. remember that the more you move the arm and axle , the harder it will be to get it back together. WHen you install the new bushings and attach the arm to the bracket first then to the frame, you can also move everything around to line up the holes for the brcket bolts.
I went ahead and used a oak hatchet handle and lowered the arm and the bracket slid right off. did the rest of the job as you described.
nothing to it and it took about 30 min to complete the job. replaced the rivets with #8 bolts and lock nut. Drives great and no clunk when you come down on the brakes. replaced ths brakepads while I had it up. feels good to do a new job. thanks alot for your information. Jim.
Why do people grind the rivets off? That frustrates me...
IMHO
Just take the wheel off... take the shocks off.. take the spring out.. disconnect sway bar... remove big nut... put a piece of heater hose over the threads and slide the axle out.. It takes awhile.. but.. I find it the Best way...
For one, it's very hard to do it that way on a four-wheel drive front axle (TTB). It takes less time to remove the rivets and the brackets than to take out all of that other "stuff", and it makes it a breeze the next time you go to replace the bushings. Whichever way you do it, u should have the alignment checked!
