Batterys going dead? Help!

Batterys going dead? Help!

I have a 2002 excursion 7.3L (out of 3yr/36000 mile wrty). First I noticed the wait to start light staying on even after driving for serval minutes it was taken to Ford dealer to have this and the steering pump looked at. As it turned out they replaced the steering pump but nothing on the wait to start light. 6 days after that the batteries were dead, towed back to Lou Grubb. They said the batteries were shot and replaced them. now 13 days after that the batteries are dead again, two new batteries I will remind you. Any ideas on any thing to check before its towed back to repair shop ford or other. Help please? Thanks ahead of time.

I would take a close look at the charging system as it sounds like she isn't putting anything back into the batterys. They should have checked that when they replaced the batterys. I would make sure you don't have to pay for the third set of batterys.
Good luck. I also have a 2002 X and have been wondering when the batterys will go. I have 58000 on mine.

Thanks Pat, I'm considering the charging system too. Mabye i should give it a jump and take it to auto zone or some place that will check the alternator.

My radio caused me problems. The display went blank. About the ssme time my battery was going dead if it wasn't driven much. I pulled the positve cable and put a 1156 light and socket in series between the bat. and cable. The light was very bright showing there was a good draw without the key on. I pulled fuses one at a time until the light dimmed. It was the battery hot for the radio. So I disconected the radio. That fixed it, so I had to replace the factory radio.

You can put a Multi-meter in between to determine your amp draw. I do not know what the normal parasitic drain on the battery should be, but I cannot imagine it being more than 1 amp.

Test for loss, then start pulling fuses until the draw drops. It is that circuit that you'll find your draw. May it be a bad ground, open circuit or whatever...
