I've read alot of threads about how many Superduties are stolen. Yet at the same time, I rarely read about Excursions or any other vehicles with PATS being stolen. It may be a simple security system, but if you ask me, if could have prevented alot of trucks from being stolen. Why didn't Ford give the superduties the PATS key?
Only Ford knows for sure, but I'd guess that one reason is that fleet owners would balk at having to pay $25-$50 per replacement PATS key for their trucks.
Not for a fleet of work trucks that are not as likely to get stolen. It would
be nice to have it as an option for the Higher line like Lariat, Harley or King ranch
models. But then ford has the pains and cost of giving that as an option.
Warranty, Service, Spare parts. The list goes on. So they have to ask how
cost effective is it to them.
Sure people would pay for it. But then there are tons of options people would
pay for. That's why the after Market does so well.. Me I went and bought a good
after Market security systems. Works better than what ford could have offered anyway.
