Hey all.
Have a 90 F150, aod, B-W 13-56 Transfer case. At 65 MPH, lost engine connection to wheels, like I pressed a clutch. Bad whine and grind coming from the t/c area, pretty loud. Pulled off, got it to go by shifting into park, 4-lo, moving a bit then shifting back to 2hi. Hubs unlocked the whole time. Didnt go over 15 MPH, drove a 1/4 mile, lots of grinding, sometimes loss of connection to wheels. Tranny fluid clear and unburnt. Crappy mechanic stripped fill plug, so I havent seen the fluid. Forward, park, reverse all work. I have no more neutral by way of the t/c, and the light stopped working. Ill split it tomorrow and have a look. If it doesnt cost too much, I think Im going to enjoy rebuilding it. Its so accessible, and thats half the battle sometimes. I guess the planetary is shot, hope it kept oil pressure. Any thoughs on how much I should pan out for a used or rebuilt just in case?

Ok so I opener her up. Not a suprise, the oil pump died, siezed on the output shaft, and destroyed the triangle oil pump mount. Luckily, the distortion of the mount plate was such that it destroyed the range fork, so the range gear got loose and drifted between hi and neutral, and I stopped moving forward. Happy it happened before the planetary exploded. Maybe 1k miles between the events. Anyway, shes rebuildable, 180 in parts and Im on my way. Hopefully. For Now.
mociaz3, I had the same prob with my xfer case. replaced the reduction fork and oil pump. All is very well now. Did this 4 weeks ago and already had it on the beach. Good Luck
