Well heres my problem, yesterday I was heading home from work when my truck started acting up, the transmission wouldn't shift at all, I could punch it and it would just stay in overdrive. Now this happened all the way home, When Ii got to a stop light I would have to manually shift it into 1lo or it would die from lugging. Well I woke up today and I went out and checked it and there is no leaking, no loss of tranny fluid, and no kinked lines, the fluid was a little dark but not burnt( i smelt it) When I started it up and put it into reverse it shifted fine but when I would put it into any forward gear it would die. This thing is in my 98, it has a 3.0 and an automatic. What could it be?

Sounds like a car i once had it would die every time it got warm or ran it hard. i changed the tranny filter and oil and it helped it you might try that.
Sounds like either the TPS sensor or the Speedo sensor. Does your speedo read right? Otherwise i would try a flush and filter, might be some garbage stuck in that tranny, you would not beleive the balck stuff that can come out of a transmission.
My spedo doesn't read right but that shoud be from the tires. A flush might cure this? Oh, please say that it will definatly because I just want to drive my baby again and not my wifes tin can grand am.
Try a tranny flush and see what you have from there. Is the o/d light blinking on the shifter at all? Is the check engine light on. I either is happening, take it down to your local parts store and they can pull the codes for you, if not, it sounds to me like either a speedo sensor, or something really messed up in the tranny internals.
Well the trucks at the Transmission shop and they say that one of the switches that controls the torque converter is bad causing the converter to stay locked, so I decided to have the entire thing rebuilt because he had it torn down into little pieces when I arrived. I am having a shift kit installed and he is rebuilding it with all heavy duty parts because the company were I got the truck and the warranty said "no dice" because I lifted it. Oh well here goes two grand (its only money...right?)
