Some time ago, this light went on on my 2002 Exp., 4.6L. It didn't flash, it just went on, and stayed on solid. Has been on ever since. It gets plenty of service, so I'm thinking this is some sort of failed sensor. Anyone heard of this before?
It is impossible to diagnose such a problem with this information. The standard responses will be one of the following:
1. Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. Hook it back up. This resets the PCM and wait to see if the light reilluminates.
2. Take it somewhere that has a code scanner and have them run it. Many auto-parts stores will do this for free. Most dealers will do it for ~$75. Good code scanners will do it for ~$350-$5000. Take your pick.
It definetly means something. We just cannot say what. I'd probably not ignore it.
I would try the battery first just disconnect like posted above and wait 10 min. My wifes first car the light came on a 50k 100k 150k just so you would go to the dealer. There was a switch and a special tool to turn it off. This was before I learned the batt. trick. That was a Geo tracker. Maybe not the problem but a good start. Autozone will read the codes for free.
Lots of posts on here for this. Any other symptoms? I had a this problem with my '98 but had some intermittant rough idle problems tied to it....found out on here that another member had a similar problem which ended up being a vacuum hose on the intake manifold. I followed his directions and VOILA light went out and idle problem solved. Do a seach or check this out for info on my issue...
